U.S. Route 1, from the north or south, to Down East Maine offers one of the most scenic drives in the United States.
From Points South
From Boston (about a 7-hour drive), head north on Route I95. Take Exit #182A, Route 395 heading east. From 395, exit Route 1A south to Ellsworth/Bar Harbor. In Ellsworth, take Route 1 north (60 miles) to Machias. Entering Machias, follow Route 1 (Dublin Street) past the University of Maine on your right. Continue over the Machias River bridge. At the Mobil station, turn left onto Main Street which becomes High Street as you follow to the left. The driveway to The Blue Butterfly Bed & Breakfast is directly across from the house on 21 High Street.
